Welcome to Get-E.org

Enlightenment DR 17 is a next-generation window manager for UNIX operating systems. It is currently in a pre-alpha stage and is under heavy development. A fairly large community already uses the development version from CVS on a daily basis though. Note that E17 is not officially supported at this stage, but people are free to try it out of course, but the standard disclaimers for pre-alpha software apply.

What we are

Welcome to the E17 users' portal. This site aims to provide high quality eyecandy for your e17 desktop experience.
We're trying to keep all content up to date, but sometimes we may not be able to keep up with the E17 development - some content may be outdated every now and then. Please take a look around and enjoy the stay.

EFM sneak preview - Valtteri "vrln" Vainikka (Sun, 09 Oct 2005 15:12:39 +0000)

Some of you might remember that it was originally planned that E17 would include a built-in file manager. This was one of the primary features that would make E17 different from other window managers - it would make E17 a desktop shell.

This hasn't been something has since then been forgotten: Hisham 'CodeWarrior' Mardam Bey has been "secretly" working on Enlightenment File Manager (EFM). Now the project has advanced to the point where an early teaser preview can be shown to the public: please check this preview picture. EFM mostly uses icons by Brian 'rephorm' Mattern and Brian 'morlenxus' Miculcy.

There is no release date planned for EFM at this point, but it might appear in CVS soon. As you might already guess, it is fully integrated into E17 itself (what this means for example, is that icon dragging to the desktop is planned, among other things) and will handle the file management aspect in the desktop shell. The EFM graphics will be included inside the main E17 theme - what this means is that themes will also be able to customize EFM. It's still in early development though, so you can expect various improvements during the E17 development period.
